About the series

In Westeros, summers and winters can last for years, and a long winter is coming. Eddard Stark, lord of Winterfell in the north, is asked by his old friend King Robert to become the Hand of the King in the capital. He accepts, and that draws his family into a struggle for the throne where everyone has secrets.

Meanwhile, something is stirring across the sea, where Daenerys Targaryen, the last of an exiled royal house, is married off to a warlord. And far to the north, beyond the Wall, things are happening that most people in the south refuse to believe.

The story is told in turn by many different characters, and Martin is known for the fact that no one is safe. The books contain violence and adult scenes.

The books in the series

  4. A Feast for Crows (2005)
  5. A Dance with Dragons (2011)

My thoughts

What makes these books special is that you can never count on who will survive. It means you read with a completely different kind of nervousness than with most fantasy.
