About the series

Violet Sorrengail has spent her whole life preparing to become a scribe and live among books. But her mother is a general in Navarre, and she decides that Violet will join the Riders Quadrant at Basgiath War College, where dragon riders are trained. Violet is small, her body breaks easily, and at Basgiath it is not unusual for students to die. On the very first day she has to cross a narrow wall high above a gorge.

To survive, she has to use her head instead of her muscles. She also has to deal with Xaden Riorson, a powerful and dangerous rider who has good reason to hate her family. At the same time, Violet begins to suspect that the story of Navarre and the war is not as simple as she was taught in the Scribe Quadrant.

The books are fast, intense and full of dragons, fighting and romance. They contain adult scenes and violence, so they are for readers from around 16 to 18.

The books in the series

My thoughts

I was completely hooked on this series. The storytelling pulls you in from the first page, and you feel close to Violet the whole way through. The world is harsh and dangerous, and you believe that anything could happen. But what really kept me going was the mysteries: the feeling that everything Violet has been taught might be a lie, and that the answer is lying just beneath the surface.
