About the series
Eragon is a poor farm boy in Alagaësia. One day he finds a polished blue stone in the mountains, and it turns out to be a dragon egg. Out of it comes the dragon Saphira, and suddenly Eragon is the first new Dragon Rider in many years.
King Galbatorix, once a Rider himself, has wiped out all the others, and he wants the dragon. Eragon has to flee his home with Brom, the old storyteller, who knows far more about Riders, magic and the ancient language than he has ever let on.
Paolini started writing the book as a teenager, and the series has become a classic for young readers who want dragons, magic and a long journey.

My thoughts
What carries it is the bond between Eragon and Saphira. A dragon who speaks, thinks and has a will of her own is still one of the best things fantasy has to offer.
