About the book

The war is lost. Helena Marino studied alchemy and served as a healer for the resistance, but now she is a prisoner, and someone has tampered with her memory. The victors believe she is hiding something important, so she is sent to Kaine Ferron, one of their most dangerous men and her old rival from their student days. His task is to draw the memories out of her with magic.

The book moves between the present, in captivity, and the past, during the war. Slowly Helena and the reader work out what happened, and what she herself had a hand in. The magic is built on alchemy, and the world is brutal, with no easy heroes.

Alchemised is long and dark, and it is about war, loss and guilt. It is a book for adult readers.

My thoughts

One of my favourites. It is heavy, but that is also why it stays with you. The way the story slowly reveals the past keeps you listening, because you want to understand what really happened.
